WASPADALAH

Pengetahuan, kesenangan, kekayaan , pekerjaan, serta kedudukan tidak dapat memberi kebahagiaan sejati, sebab itu Salomomenulis "segal;a sesuatu adalah sia-sia".

Karena itu jangan tergoda oleh apa yang nampaknya akan memberikan kebahagiaan dan kedamaian, sebab dapat membuat frustrasi dan kekecewaan.


Pengkhotbah 12:12-14 (Ecclesiastes 12:12-14)

(12) Lagipula, anakku, waspadalah! Membuat banyak buku tak akan ada akhirnya, dan banyak belajar melelahkan badan.

But about going further [than the words given by one Shepherd], my son, be warned. Of making many books there is no end [so do not believe everything you read], and much study is a weariness of the flesh.


(13) Akhir kata dari segala yang didengar ialah: takutlah akan Allah dan berpeganglah pada perintah-perintah-Nya, karena ini adalah kewajiban setiap orang.

All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is] and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man [the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God's providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [duty] for every man.


(14) Karena Allah akan membawa setiap perbuatan ke pengadilan yang berlaku atas segala sesuatu yang tersembunyi, entah itu baik, entah itu jahat.

For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good or evil.


1 Yohanes 2:15-17 (1 John 2:15-17)

(15) Janganlah kamu mengasihi dunia dan apa yang ada di dalamnya. Jikalau orang mengasihi dunia, maka kasih akan Bapa tidak ada di dalam orang itu.

Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him.


(16) Sebab semua yang ada di dalam dunia, yaitu keinginan daging dan keinginan mata serta keangkuhan hidup, bukanlah berasal dari Bapa, melainkan dari dunia.

For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one's own resources or in the stability of earthly things]--these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself].


(17) Dan dunia ini sedang lenyap dengan keinginannya, tetapi orang yang melakukan kehendak Allah tetap hidup selama-lamanya.

And the world passes away and disappears, and with it the forbidden cravings (the passionate desires, the lust) of it; but he who does the will of God and carries out His purposes in his life abides (remains) forever.
